The Shenandoah Valley Chess Club has a variety of activities for all ages and skill levels. All of our upcoming events are listed on the events page, but here are some of the things you can expect as part of our club.
The SVCC meets at Bowman Library in Stephens City, Virginia at 10am on the 3rd Saturday of each month. The meetings are open to the public and all ages and skill levels are welcome. There is no charge to attend. The focus of the meetings is for players to have a venue to play friendly games against each other. There are typically players of all skill levels. In addition our coaches are available to provide lessons for inexperienced or new players.
The SVCC has two US Chess certified chess coaches. The coaches are available during our regularly scheduled club meetings. In addition, the club has a large number of experienced players that are always ready to help out folks just starting out.
Prior to Covid-19, the SVCC had previously hosted multiple tournaments throughout the year. We hae held both rated and unrated tournaments. Scholastic events were previously held monthly throughout the chess season while events for adults run 2 to 3 times per year. The club has in the past had multiple tournament directors so all tournaments are run by SVCC members and took place locally. As we begin to gear back up post pandemic, we will strive to bring this part of our club back to the forefront.
The SVCC hosts multiple meet ups in community settings throughout the year. We have regular get togethers for chess at local eateries and attend multiple community festivals throughout the year from Kidzfest to the Renaissance Festival. Check out the upcoming events page for our next great get together.
