David is the President of the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club and is dedicated to expanding the chess experience throughout the Shenandoah Valley. He is a US Chess Federation Certified Coach who works with new through advanced players. He is a member of the US Chess Federation and is a US Chess rated player. In addition, he serves as one of SVCC’s certified club tournament directors.
 

USCF Chess Coach: John Clark

John is the treasurer for the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club. He is a US Chess Federation Certified Chess Coach and works with David as one of the two primary instructors at our regular club meetings. His focus is often with younger or new players to teach the fundamentals of the game.  He is a member of the US Chess Federation and is a US Chess rated player. He also serves as one of SVCC’s certified club tournament directors.

 

Chief Scholastic Coach: Alex Miller
 

Alex serves as the SVCC’s primary scholastic coach and works with our Competition Team members to improve their play in US Chess tournaments. He has a strong interest in scholastic chess and is a previous winner of the Virginia State Scholastic Championship. He is a member of the US Chess Federation and is a US Chess rated player.

Chief Tournament Director: Vacant

 

Due to the lengthy time off the club does not currently have any active tournament directors. We are working to remedy this situation in the future, but do not currently have any rated tournaments on our calendar.

 

 

W. David Hubbard and John Clark have previously worked as Tournament Directors and are in process of regaining these certifications following the pandemic.
