What the SVCC has to offer

The Shenandoah Valley Chess Club has a variety of activities for all ages and skill levels. All of our upcoming events are listed on the events page, but here are some of the things you can expect as part of our club.

  • Weekly club meetings:

The SVCC meets twice a week, Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm and Saturday mornings at 10:00am. These meetings are focused on providing lessons for inexperienced players and to provide a venue for more experienced players to practice their skills. The meetings are open to the public and all ages and skill levels are welcome. There is no charge to attend.

  • Chess Lessons:

The SVCC has two US Chess certified chess coaches. The coaches are available during our regularly scheduled club meetings. In addition, the club has a large number of experienced players that are always ready to help out folks just starting out.

  • Tournaments:

The SVCC hosts multiple tournaments throughout the year. We hold both rated and unrated tournaments. Scholastic events are held monthly throughout the chess season while events for adults run 2 to 3 times per year. The club has multiple tournament directors so all tournaments are run by SVCC members and take place locally.

  • Casual meet ups for Chess:

The SVCC hosts multiple meet ups in community settings throughout the year. We have regular get togethers for chess at local eateries and attend multiple community festivals throughout the year from Kidzfest to the Renaissance Festival. Check out the upcoming events page for our next great get together.
